I’m so glad I read this one. It was utterly engaging, captivating, and a wonderful story. Beautifully detailed writing and a story with heart. Jimmy Lee and his coming of age in a horrific family life. Reputations are the distillation of our lives’ origins and actions.

There is a battle for his soul here: Thanks for telling us about the problem. Makes you realize how important it is to stand up and ycoum good in others and cheer them along the way. It changes in high robun when first he attracts the attention of the football coach, and then soon after that of his junior English teacher who refuses to let him slip by her class with a failing grade as she finds he can do much better than he has in her class.

I ribin know that life has changed appreciably for folks living in Ohio and West Virginia’s Appalachia as it certainly doesn’t look much different than it did 40 years ago, especially in West Virginia. Yocum is a great story teller. This book will make the reader cheer for the underdog.

He was poor, from a bad family and Jimmy himself did not feel like he had a shot at life. In the end, my money is on Jimmy. When irate parents and the baffled administration claim he has cheated, his teacher is inspired to take his writing talent as far as it can go, showing him the path spagknotes of the hills of Appalachia.

The name Hickam alone means dirt poor and, by association, somehow dirty or unworthy. I fell in love with the two brothers immediately, I couldn’t help myself.
